New technique makes AI models leaner and faster while theyâre still learning | MIT News
Training a large artificial intelligence model is expensive, not just in dollars, but in time, energy, and computational resources. Traditionally, obtaining a smaller, faster model either requires training a massive one first and then trimming it down, or training a small one from scratch and accepting weaker performance. Researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL), Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems, European Laboratory for Learning and Intelligent Systems, ETH, and Liquid AI have now developed a new method that sidesteps this trade-off entirely, compressing models during training, rather than after. The technique, called CompreSSM, targets a family of AI architectures known…
No one checked oversized requests While the previous authorization bypass was triggered when request Content-Length was set to 0, no one checked at the time what would happen in the same function if the request exceeded a certain size. âWhen an API request body exceeds 1MB, Dockerâs middleware silently drops the body before your authorization plugin sees it,â the Cyera researchers found. âThe plugin, seeing nothing to inspect, approves the request. The Docker daemon then processes the full body and creates the requested container, potentially granting full host filesystem access.â This is essentially the same bug class with the same…

Rachel Reeves has been told by one of the worldâs most influential economic bodies that Britainâs tax system is holding the country back and needs urgent surgery if the Chancellor is serious about reigniting growth. In a pointed intervention, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) has urged the Treasury to launch an âin-depth tax review to make the tax system more efficient and growth-friendlyâ, arguing that decades of tinkering have left Britain with a patchwork of distortions, loopholes and outdated valuations that penalise enterprise and deter investment. The Paris-based think tankâs latest assessment will make uncomfortable reading in…

Dogecoin is flashing renewed signs of weakness as its BTC pair breaks down sharply, dragging the price structure into bearish territory. With momentum fading and key support levels giving way, attention now shifts to confirmation on the USDT pair. BTC Pair Breakdown Sparks Dogecoin Bearish Bias Umair Cryptoâs latest analysis highlights a significant breakdown as the DOGE/BTC pair hit a 68-day low, breaching critical support. While the overall bias is firmly bearish, the USDT pair is still required to trigger a broader sell-off. The BTC pair continues to show weakness; a slip below 1.57% would mark a fresh 180-day low.…
For years I exercised daily, did plenty of cardio, and restricted my calories to the point I was way undereating. Yet the stubborn weight still held on, my thyroid wasnât functioning well, and my lab numbers werenât where I wanted them. If youâd told me then that the answer wasnât a stricter diet or more supplements, I wouldnât have believed you. Looking back, I realized that my body was in fight or flight mode for over a decade. I had to step back and ask the hard questions. Not âhow do I force my body to listen,â but âhow can…
When Hot Type approached us to build the promotional site for Exat, their most ambitious typeface release yet, we knew a static specimen page wouldnât be sufficient. Exat is a 21-style, 1,715-glyph typographic system inspired by Croatian modernism and the EXAT 51 art collective. The site needed to reflect the logic, structure, and energy of that context. The result is a scroll-driven experience where typography reacts, shifts, and transforms through interaction. This case study focuses on the design intent behind those decisions and how motion and interaction were used to communicate the type system. Design Task The core task was…
