Hey there ✳︎
I am Sofia, Digital Art & Creative Director with 18 years of experience and a strong foundation in visual design and branding. My passion lies in blending aesthetics with strategy, conceptual design and innovative tech aiming to amplify how brands connect with their audiences across all touch points.
I’m currently leading a wonderful team of designers as Design Director at VML, Tech & Commerce, in Dubai.
About me
As a creative I’ve been continuously evolving to synergistically work with new technologies, blending beautiful design with a spirit of ingenuity.
Throughout my career I’ve worked with top-notch international agencies like Superhero Cheesecake, Territory Studio and UNIT9, as well as global startups, partnering with movers & shakers in the digital space.
My work has been recognized by organizations such as Awwwards, CSSDA, ADCE, Lovie, and EBGE. I’ve also served as a judge and speaker at international design events, sharing insights on creativity and digital design.
Passionate about giving back, I teach my approach through my “Art Direction & Design Leadership” course on the Awwwards Academy.
My Story
I just introduced myself as a Digital Art & Creative Director, but this is not how it all started.
Ever since I can remember I wanted to be a painter. My mother was always telling me that as most kids were carrying around their toys, I was carrying my brushes, markers and sketchbooks. Coming from a working class family though, when I reached the age of 17 and was ready to apply to university, my fear of being able to support myself financially was holding me back from following my dream.
Fun and weird fact—call it fate—at that time I was spending time with a couple, both painters. While sharing my fears about applying to the Fine Arts Academy, one of them asked, “Have you ever heard of Graphic Design? It’s creative and easier to find work in.” I hadn’t, but the moment I did, I loved it. I applied, worked hard, and got accepted into the Graphic Design Department at the Technological Institution of Athens. Never heard from them again ⚇
That was the beginning of my journey, falling more and more in love with design each day. I began my career in advertising for 7 years, then transitioned into freelancing focusing exclusively on web and brand design, eventually moving into more immersive design—which has been a huge passion of mine for quite some time now.
Showcase
Terradactyl
Terradactyl, a boutique QA agency, came to me with a clear request: to create a website that reflects their work with award-winning agencies on technically challenging, creatively ambitious projects they genuinely enjoy.
With no existing brand beyond the name, I was commissioned to build everything from the ground up—logo, concept, art direction, website, and narrative. One of my most creative and enjoyable collaborations to this day.
Personal Branding
I’ve always treated my personal brand and website as a creative playground, a space to experiment both creatively and technically. My current site is my second portfolio, with a new iteration already in the way. Because as you evolve, personally and professionally, your work evolves, the tools in your disposal evolve, and your brand should evolve with you.
Alongside my website and supporting brand material, I’ve been exploring the idea of my ‘digital double’. I was curious. In a digital world where the limits of physics and biology no longer apply, who —or what—could I become? I decided that I wanted to be me. Augmented. The same way I see the relationship between humanity and technology, not as a substitute, but as a force that amplifies and empowers us.
Dot Lung
This is an older project, but it is the one closest to my heart, as it changed my trajectory and positioned me as a digital branding and web designer in the international scene, earning me a series of awards. Most importantly it was the first personal branding project that I ever worked on that taught me to treat every project as such.
One of the first questions in my creative brief is: “If your brand were a person, what would they look and sound like?” Assigning human qualities to a brand, and expressing them through visual communication, makes it more relatable. People connect with people, not just logos, which allows for a deeper, more meaningful connection with the audience.
M.A.D Brand Identity
The Metaverse Advisory Department at UNIT9 was a strategic space where brands such as Meta and Google were advised on the use of immersive technologies across their products and activations.
Alongside my role as Creative Director for the department, I also designed its visual identity. I took a brutalist, digitally-driven approach to reflect both the experimental nature of the department and UNIT9’s distinctive blend of edge and tech innovation.

Inspiration through experience
Both in my personal and professional life, I’m driven by experiences that engage all senses. Music, travel, food, art—digital or physical!—are my constant sources of inspiration.
I read somewhere that when we travel everything feels new, and when everything is new our brains work harder. I live by that. Constantly exploring, discovering, evolving. The exact same mentality characterises my professional journey from graphic to digital and now to immersive design.
Looking into the future
Moving from print to screens and from screens to three dimensions through time, I’ve seen and experienced the creative industry change first-hand, through the eyes of a designer.
And what I’ve come to realise is that our canvas is changing, our tools are changing, but at the end of the day it’s all about visual -and now sensorial– communication and about making a connection. A deep emotional resonance, with the people that interact with your work.
