Wonder Man was a triumph—easily one of Marvel Studios’ most entertaining Disney+ series to date. One of very few things we didn’t like about it was that we didn’t get enough of the in-universe Wonder Man movie that changes the lives of the characters played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Ben Kingsley.
Marvel knows fans are eager for more Wonder Man, and while we wait to see if season two becomes a reality, the studio has released a very fun, perfectly retro trailer from the faux 1980s Wonder Man feature—the basis for the film being made in the Wonder Man series. Do not adjust the tracking on your VCR; just soak up those delicious cornball vibes.
He’s not just a hero—he’s a wonder!
The glimpse of the merch at the end is also note-perfect: the lunchbox, the thermos, the luridly bright promo art. (What, no officially licensed tie-in sunglasses?) You can see why this was a childhood favorite of Simon Williams (Abdul-Mateen’s character) and why, decades later, he’d be so determined to become part of the remake. You can also see why this nostalgia-drenched, in-universe Wonder Man was the perfect fodder for the series’ witty exploration of Hollywood’s superhero-industrial complex.
Marvel also shared a short making-of on X that’s just as fun as the trailer itself (“I honestly don’t think I have been this happy on set ever,” admits Wonder Man co-creator Destin Daniel Cretton).

Created by Cretton and Andrew Guest, Wonder Man‘s eight-episode first (and hopefully not last) season is streaming on Disney+. Along with Abdul-Mateen and Kingsley, the cast includes X Mayo, Zlatko Burić, Arian Moayed, Byron Bowers, and—playing themselves, or at least versions of themselves—Joe Pantoliano and Josh Gad.
