Days of Our Lives has Gwen Rizczech (Emily O’Brien) really mad that her plan to punish Leo Stark (Greg Rikaart) by bringing back Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera (Peter Porte) is backfiring in a big way.
And now Gwen wants to get rid of her cheating hubby again ASAP. And Leo also wants the hunk gone. We’re going to talk about whether former best friends Gwen and Leo can put their differences aside and work together to get Dimitri gone.
Dimitri von Leuschner DiMera and the Failed Wedding Sabotage on Days of Our Lives
Now, let’s get into it. We knew there was going to be trouble for Leo and Javi Hernandez (Al Calderon) when Gwen hauled her cheating hubby Dimitri out of hiding and brought him back to Salem. You could tell that Gwen was hoping that Dimitri was going to make it to the wedding in time to disrupt it before they said their I-dos.
If you remember, you could tell that Gwen was waiting for something big because she kept checking her phone looking at the time during Leo and Javi’s romantic New Year’s Eve wedding, and she was looking impatient and annoyed. So, it upset Gwen’s plans that Dimitri didn’t show up until after Javi and Leo were pronounced husband and husband.
Things Go Sideways for Leo & Javi on DOOL
But then everything blew up because then Javi was quick to tell Leo, “You have to go sort things out with Dimitri.” And at this point, this week that we’ve seen, Javi is refusing to let Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) file their marriage license.
So, that means it’s going to expire and that means it’s going to be like Javi and Leo never got married. It just completely undoes it. And now with Javi’s father having open heart surgery, he’s got to leave Salem and go to Texas.
Javi Leaves Salem as Leo Struggles with His Feelings
This week, after little Trey’s hastily arranged christening, we saw Leo absolutely brokenhearted because he had to say goodbye to Javi, who has now left town indefinitely. We know he is coming back. I’ll talk about that in a minute.
Problem is, Leo admitted to Javi that he still has feelings for Dimitri. There’s clearly unfinished business there. While Leo’s heart I think does belong to Javi, there’s still some chemistry there between Leo and Dimitri. I think honestly it’s mostly lust. Peter Porte’s gorgeous. I mean, we can all see it.
So, for now, Javi gave back his wedding band to Leo and we just saw Javi crying. He refused to keep it, but Leo vowed to hang on to the ring until he can put it back on Javi’s finger. It was heartbreaking. It was sad. And for now, Leo’s had to say goodbye to Javi. And I’m betting while his soulmate is gone from Salem that Leo is going to knuckle down and solve this Dimitri problem.
Gwen’s Revenge: French Fries and Frozen Bank Accounts on Days
Meanwhile, Gwen is seeing red. She cannot believe Dimitri cut off the bank account and credit cards. Gwen was so humiliated by Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) at the bookstore. So, she tracked down Dimitri, ranted, stole his French fries, and then dumped his lunch in his lap and his beer on his head, which I thought was very well done.
Of course, her husband’s still salty. Because he is so certain that Gwen was behind his kidnapping. And he’s right, but he has no proof. Dimitri keeps telling anybody who will listen that Gwen kidnapped him, but pretty much nobody seems to care. And they’ve all told him, “Call somebody else.” You know, call someone who cares. Isn’t that the saying? Here’s a quarter, call someone who cares.
And to be fair, it was EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel) who helped Gwen orchestrate Dimitri’s kidnapping and captivity. They conspired on it, but I think EJ saw the moving parts to make it happen. And of course, he was more than happy to help Gwen as long as she was going to use Dimitri’s money to fund the secret lab that’s hidden under Salem University Hospital behind the facade of the Tom Horton (Zach Chyz) free clinic. So, there’s a bargain there and there’s about to be a problem when EJ’s back in town. So, Gwen really needs to fix this.
Days of Our Lives: Gwen and Leo Hit Rock Bottom in Salem
The bottom line is that Gwen bringing back Dimitri has turned into a colossal disaster. He plans to divorce Gwen, take back all his money, including what she spent. I don’t know where he thinks that’s going to come from.
And then Dimitri thinks he’s going to ride off into the sunset with the love of his life, Leo. Those are great plans, but I don’t think they’re going to happen. And I think Dimitri needs to watch his back because Gwen is getting more desperate by the day. And she just confessed, which I thought was great, that the thing she hates Dimitri the most for is ruining her relationship with her best friend Leo.
So, I suspect Gwen and Leo finally sit down and talk soon. Gwen’s at rock bottom basically now that Dimitri’s cut her off financially. Meanwhile, Leo’s at rock bottom because Javi cut him off emotionally giving back the ring and leaving town with no return date. And he did threaten that he didn’t know if he would be back. And we already saw Leo ask Gwen to re-kidnap Dimitri in exchange for walking away from the secret lab story.
Will Dr. Wilhelm Rolf Turn Dimitri into a Lab Guinea Pig on Days of Our Lives?
Now, at the time, Gwen lied and denied, but now things have gone drastically downhill, and I suspect she might be ready to play ball with Leo. And let’s be real, he also misses being besties with Gwen. So despite their anger, I think they’re going to realize Dimitri is a common problem they need to solve together.
I’ve mentioned in past videos that I thought Gwen could ask Dr. Wilhelm Rolf (Richard Wharton) for help while EJ is gone. The DiMera mad scientist is on their payroll and he knows Gwen’s funding the state-of-the-art lab and all his research. So, Rolf might agree to take Dimitri off their hands because he knows this is critical to fund the research.
What would be really soapy is if Rolf tells them he’ll kidnap Dimitri and says he’ll take him back to Alemannia, put him back in the plush prison, or maybe take him to the DiMera private island where he’ll be safe and sound but out of touch. But instead, Rolf could snatch him and Dimitri wakes up in the secret lab as a guinea pig while Leo and Gwen think Dimitri is back in the lap of luxury.
Days of Our Lives Spoilers: February Sweeps and Recasting Javi
So, here’s the big question in all this. Will Gwen and Leo team up like they did in the old days to get rid of Dimitri? We know that Leo claims to be a changed man because of Javi, but he also knows if Dimitri sticks around, then Javi isn’t going to get back with him.
So, I think at this point, Gwen and Leo have both reached the point of desperation that they may be willing to leave the past in the past, let bygones be bygones, and work together. Gwen was really hurt when Leo slept with her husband repeatedly and on her honeymoon.
And of course, he was hurt that Gwen forged the breakup letter that he got from Dimitri. So, they’ve both done each other really dirty and they just need to call it even and bury the hatchet—and they can bury it right in Dimitri’s back.
I don’t think Gwen’s husband is going to be in Salem for too much longer. February sweeps kicks off at the end of next week and they always do big story lines. Things start picking up on the pace. So Dimitri’s fate could be revealed during sweeps.
Peter Porte’s Meaningful Storyline on DOOL
Peter Porte said he was thrilled to be back to Days of Our Lives and he called the storyline meaningful, but he didn’t indicate how long he’s going to stay this time. And we all know Days is a revolving door of people in and out all the time. So, it could be that Gwen and Leo try and get rid of Dimitri and they accomplish that, but then he escapes and he turns back up like a bad penny. We’ll see how it goes.
I’m hoping to see Leo and Javi get their happily ever after. Al Calderon is going to be on Days of Our Lives until May and then they recast the role of Javi because Al Calderon got on the NBC show Brilliant Minds. So Javi and Leo are likely to work things out and that means Dimitri’s got to go. And my money is on Gwen and Leo teaming up, dealing with Dimitri and them conspiring together results in them reuniting as best friends forever.
