Over the years, Gwyneth Paltrow has often been portrayed as Hollywood’s “Ice Queen.” Now, for the first time, she is opening up about this image the world has created of her.
The âEmmaâ star, who rose to fame in the ’90s as the daughter of actress Blythe Danner and director Bruce Paltrow, says she has long lived with a version of herself projected by others that doesn’t reflect who she truly is.
However, while the âShakespeare in Loveâ star openly addressed the perspective, she doubts she will truly be understood.

In an interview on âThe Cutting Room Floor” podcast, the Goop founder reflected on the “narrative” surrounding her reputation, admitting she’s puzzled by its very existence.
âI have never created my own narrative. I’m aware that that exists,â Paltrow explained. âBut I have had a really strange life in this respect.â The wellness entrepreneur pointed out that what baffles her most is how the public arrived at the way they’ve characterized her.
âI have no idea who people are talking about,â Paltrow declared before adding that peopleâs ideas have been projected onto her.Â
She further described the narrative as âvery tropey, reductive things that you could say about a lot of people and culture.â

As for the years-long misrepresentation, Paltrow confessed it has taken a toll on her. “We’re all human beings, so it hurts when somebody willfully misrepresents you or misperceives you,” she said.Â

“Instagram kind of dismantled a lot of that business model. There was this pursuit of images and information to sort of humanize celebrities,â the 52-year-old lamented before confessing why she doesnât share her personal life online.Â

The âSevenâ star described herself as naturally introverted, making the idea of putting her life on display “uncomfortable.” However, Paltrow noted that she understands that the platforms are a powerful tool while building a consumer product brand.Â

During the conversation, the âTwo Loversâ star discussed her health and wellness company, acknowledging that its price point is beyond the reach of many.
She went on to describe Goop’s target audience and outlined the profile of their average customer. “The Goop woman is sort of the ‘me’ of her circle. She’s 40 plus, she has about 2.2 children, college educated, largely coastal,â Paltrow stated before adding, “Yes, she is also rich,â per US Weekly.Â
The businesswoman explained the categories of customers, saying, âWe kind of have two cohorts. We have a reader cohort and a shopper cohort, but the shopper cohort has a higher household income than the reader.â

Paltrow’s decision to speak out about the publicâs misbeliefs regarding her reputation comes a month after a biography claimed her golden image was built on ambition, broken ties, and disregard for others.
As The Blast reported, excerpts from Amy Odell’s âGwyneth: The Biographyâ trace Paltrowâs life from her teenage years through her rise in Hollywood. The book recalls that at Spence School in New York, classmates feared the actress, and at one point she even fat-shamed a peer.
The biography also delves into her past friendship with Winona Ryder, suggesting their fallout stemmed from Ryder’s theft scandal, allegations Paltrow never believed.

Aside from the book uncovering Paltrowâs younger years, it also revealed how she micromanages her brand and instills fear in her staff.
In researching the publication, Odell claimed that Goop’s past employees were “more cautious than Anna Wintour’s ex-staffers.” Even so, some workers were hesitant to speak on record, while others feared that Paltrow might retaliate against them, with an insider alleging that she had taken action against those who crossed her.
“She was more uncomfortable than she let on,” said a Miramax insider about working with her.
