Outstanding loans of universal and commercial banks rose by 10.7% year on year to P12.25 trillion in August from P11.07 trillion a year ago. This was also the fastest growth rate since the 13.7% logged in December 2022. On a seasonally adjusted basis, big banks’ outstanding loans inched up by 0.8% month on month. Two Chinese nationals have been killed after an explosion near Jinnah International Airport in Karachi, Pakistan. The Chinese embassy in Pakistan said “many Pakistani personnel were killed and injured” in the blast, which happened around 23:00 local time (17:00 GMT).
