Returning Doctor Who showrunner Russell T. Davies might have pioneered modern Doctor Who holiday specials—Christmassy monsters, high spectacle, an occasional amount of Kylie Minogue—but it’s arguable that it was his successor, Steven Moffat, that really nailed the balancing act of what a good Doctor Who Christmas story should be. In May 2020, the media and technology conglomerate Thomson Reuters sued a small legal AI startup called Ross Intelligence, alleging that it had violated US copyright law by reproducing materials from Westlaw, Thomson Reuters’ legal research platform. As the pandemic raged, the lawsuit hardly registered outside the small world of nerds obsessed with copyright rules. But it’s now clear that the case—filed more than two years before the generative AI boom began—was the first strike in a much larger war between content publishers and artificial intelligence companies now unfolding in courts across the country.

Bill Lawrence and Christa Miller. Emma McIntyre/Getty Images Getting to work with wife Christa Miller has some perks for Bill Lawrence but there are also certain cons — such as watching her kiss other men. “I don’t like that at all,” Lawrence, 55, exclusively told Us Weekly on Thursday, December 12, at PaleyLive’s An Evening of Shrinking program at WGA Theater. That approach has most recently come into play for Lawrence’s current show Shrinking, where Miller is married to on…
