GoPro has a few tricks here and there worth mentioning, though. As someone who likes to handle color grading in postproduction software, the new, improved Log video support is very welcome. I would go so far as to say this is the best Log profile I’ve seen in an action camera. The Hero 13 Black also has a new slow-motion burst mode which can record 5.3K footage at 120 frames per second. It pulls that off for only five seconds, though, so this is best used for situations like your kid going off a jump on their bike or diving…

The discovery of new materials is crucial to addressing pressing global challenges such as climate change and advancements in next-generation computing. However, existing computational and experimental approaches face significant limitations in efficiently exploring the vast chemical space. While AI has emerged as a powerful tool for materials discovery, the lack of publicly available data and open, pre-trained models has become a major bottleneck. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations, essential for studying material stability and properties, are computationally expensive, restricting their utility in exploring large material search spaces. Researchers from Meta Fundamental AI Research (FAIR) have introduced the Open Materials 2024…

Bharat Mistry, technical director for UK and Ireland at Trend Micro, said: “Becoming NIS2-compliant is a significant undertaking that requires a multidisciplinary approach, involving legal, technical, and management efforts. However, the investment is justified by the enhanced security posture, reduced risk of cyber incidents, and compliance with legal obligations, which can prevent costly penalties and reputation damage.” Martin Rutterford, channel director for UK and Ireland at Check Point Software, commented: “The journey towards NIS2 compliance directly aligns with broader cybersecurity goals by fostering a culture of continuous improvement. It forces organisations to adopt more robust security postures, enhance resilience, and…

Teleoperated rovers could soon be working on the moon, with human controllers on Earth manipulating the rovers’ tools virtually, allowing for greater dexterity when taking samples, digging or assembling.Researchers from the robotics laboratory at the University of Bristol in England have tested their new teleoperations system at the European Space Agency’s (ESA) European Centre for Space Applications and Telecommunications at Harwell in Oxfordshire. By controlling a virtual simulation of a rover, they were able to manipulate a robotic arm to dig a sample of pretend lunar regolith (called simulant). The process negates the need for camera feeds, which can lag…
