Scarlett Johansson has always known how to make an entrance. She strutted into the Jurassic World franchise with Rebirth back in July 2025, and the dinosaurs barely stood a chance. Now, it looks like she might be suiting back up sooner than anyone expected.
According to reliable industry scooper Daniel RPK, Jurassic World 5 is rumored to kick off production this fall, making it one of Hollywood’s most anticipated sequels to get the green light. Or, well, the unofficial green light. Universal Pictures has not formally confirmed a fifth entry in the franchise. But let’s be honest: when a movie grosses $869.1 million worldwide on a budget of $180 to $225 million, studios do not exactly sit on their hands.

Jurassic World Rebirth, directed by the quietly magnetic Gareth Edwards, was a full-throttle thrill ride that proved Johansson could carry a tentpole franchise all by herself. Playing the sleek and capable Zora Bennett, she led a cast that included the irresistible Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid and the impossibly charming Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis. Together, they were electric enough to power a whole island of T. Rexes.
Rumored title: ‘Jurassic World Liberation’
The sequel chatter has been building for a while. MyTimetoShineHello had already alleged that Universal was developing a follow-up before Rebirth even hit theaters, with both Johansson and Edwards reportedly wanted back. Then in November 2025, industry heavyweight Jeff Sneider reported in his newsletter TheInsneider that Edwards was in final negotiations to return to the director’s chair, and that Johansson, Ali, and Bailey were all expected to reprise their roles.

Meanwhile, EmpireCity Box Office claimed Universal was fast-tracking the fifth film for a 2027 release, with a potential slide to 2028 if the scheduling puzzle doesn’t come together cleanly.
Here is where things get delicious. Rebirth was Johansson’s first full Jurassic leading role, and she brought in close to $870 million. Universal has to be licking its lips at the idea of what a fully established Johansson-fronted sequel, with built-in audience goodwill and a returning ensemble everyone already loves, could do at the global box office. A billion dollars is right there on the table, just waiting.

If fall filming holds, audiences could be looking at a 2027 release that makes this franchise feel utterly unstoppable. One thing is certain: wherever Scarlett Johansson goes, the crowds will follow. Even if there are velociraptors involved.
